There are moments in life when we feel disconnected from ourselves, when the weight of past mistakes or quiet (self-) judgment gently dims our light.
Ho’oponopono offers a simple, yet deeply healing practice.
It invites us to gently release what pulls our energy into the past, so we can return to the present moment, open, grounded, and free.
Through this practice, we begin to unblock the natural flow of love, power, and freedom within us, and remember who we truly are.
🌸 What is Ho’oponopono?
Ho’oponopono is a healing practice rooted in ancient Hawaiian tradition. Originally used to restore harmony and balance in relationships, it has also been evolved into a powerful experience for personal healing. It offers a way to reconnect with the most sacred relationship we have: the one with ourselves.
At the heart of Ho’oponopono are four key phrases:
I’m sorry.
We begin by acknowledging the suffering from our own judgments and self-blame.
We recognize that our limiting beliefs disconnect us from our highest potential.
Through this practice, we speak to the most loving and wise part of us, our higher self, the version of us that remembers who we truly are and what we are capable of.
Please forgive me.
We ask for forgiveness from our higher self, the most loving, wise, and whole version of ourselves, the one that has been overshadowed by judgment and self-doubt.
We ask for forgiveness because we forgot that, at our very core, we are love.
We mistakenly believed we were something smaller, and wrongly identified ourself with something less than our true essence.
We begin to see the reality again and remember our highest potential being.
I love you.
This phrase is a universal invitation to healing and dignity.
As we speak it, we allow ourselves to embrace our true essence and accept our journey with unconditioal love.
In the very moment we choose love, we begin to experience love, within us, around us, and through us. What blocked the flow of love is now realesed.
Thank you.
We express gratitude for this new opening within us, a space where old pain can be seen, honored, and accepted with love.
With this tuning on the powerful inner state of thankfulness, we begin to see our experience through new eyes. We can now give it meaning, learn from it, and honor the strength it awakened in us.
We say thank you for the opportunity to choose again who we want to be, who we do not want to be.
We appreciate the clarity, the wisdom, the quiet power that has grown within us through this journey, and the conscious choice to shape our life with love and intention.
🧘 Guided Meditation for Self-Forgiveness
In the following meditation, you are guided gently through the four phrases of Ho’oponopono, creating a safe space to breathe, reflect, and feel.
🌿 Start Here:
Find a quiet, comfortable space. Close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath in... Now gently breathe out. Feel your body… feel the ground supporting you. Everything is safe. You are here. You are held by the moment.
💬 Whispers from the Heart
As you breathe, softly say each phrase in your mind or out loud. Let the words settle deep into your body and heart.
1. I’m sorry, (say your name softly).
I see that I’ve been hurting. That I’ve judged myself harshly. That I’ve left parts of myself alone when they needed help. I’m sorry, my dear.
2. Please forgive me.
For the times I ignored my feelings. For carrying pain in silence for a while. For memories that still feel heavy in my heart. I ask for forgiveness, from myself, from life, from love.
3. I love you.
I look into my heart and say: I love you, with all your fears, doubts, and wounds. I love you, because you are a reflection of love made visible in a human form.
And when I look at you, I see light. I see the entire universe reflected in your being. I see the power of creation itself, alive within you.
4. Thank you.
Thank you for being here, now. Thank you for the courage to remember and return to your trueself. Thank you, life, for giving me another chance to heal. Thank you for bringing me closer to who I truly am.
✨ Deepening the Practice (Optional)
As you repeat each phrase, gently deepen your meditation by reflecting on these personal sentence completions:
I’m sorry...
Allow yourself to feel the words fully, and complete the sentence with whatever intuitive response arises first.
I’m sorry for the times I… (pause and let your thoughts rise).
What emotions come up?
Where do you feel them in your body?
Gently bring your attention to your body, holding yourself with compassion and love throughout this experience.
Please forgive me...
Forgive me for forgetting who I truly am. Forgive me for losing sight of my inner light.
If I could let go of one limiting belief today, it would be: …
I love you...
Look inside. Maybe there’s a child within you, or a wounded part, waiting to hear this.
I love you, even if...
I am worthy of love because…
When I love myself, I act with more kindness and courage. How differently would you act?
Thank you...
Thank you for my body that’s still here. For my heart that still beats.
Today, I thank myself for…
The greatest gift in my life I feel in this moment is...
💫 Closing the Meditation
Continuew in silence for a few moments. Feel your breath. Feel your presence. Let the energy of love and thankfulness fill your heart.
And when you're ready, say softly to yourself:
I am at peace with my past. I say yes to this present moment. I am ready to live more fully as my true self.
If tears come, let them flow. They are the sacred waters of healing.
Take a few deep breaths. Wiggle your fingers. And when you’re ready, gently open your eyes.
📝 Journal Prompts for After the Meditation
To gently integrate your new self-awareness, using the following journaling questions:
What emotions surface in my chest when I look myself in the eyes and say, “I’m sorry”?
If I could let go of one belief that’s been dimming my light, what would I finally set free today?
If I moved through today knowing, like truly knowing, that I am lovable, how would I treat myself?
What unfiltered truth about who I really am is finally ready to be seen, heard, and lived out loud?
In this exact breath, what is my heart deeply grateful for?
🕊️ Carry This Into Your Day
You can return to this practice as often as you need. Repeat the phrases in the mirror. Whisper them when walking. Hold them in your heart during moments of self-critic.
The more we speak to ourselves with love, the more we heal.
Each act of self-healing echoes outward, weaving threads of peace into the fabric of the world, sending out waves of love into the human's symphony.
